FABRIANO
Creative city
In the heart of the Marche region, at the foot of the Apennines, lies one of Italy’s largest expanses of land, brimming with natural beauties and historical and artistic heritage: in one word, Fabriano.
The last stretch of the Marca d’Ancona land backing on to the region of Umbria, Fabriano is surrounded by lush landscapes and untouched nature that makes it a successful example of the perfect merger between architecture and local morphology.
Fabriano was a major cultural crosswords of ancient origins and traditions that continue to distinguish this area to day, and the expression of a far-off and a recent past that can be captured in the environmental values, in the changing view of the landscape, in the features of the rural buildings, in the silent appearance of the narrow streets that are a far cry from hectic city life, and in the extremely warm and welcome friendliness of locals with any outsiders.
A stay in Fabriano will surprise you due to the wealth of generous lands, the open welcome that offers you local fruits and sweet and wild beauties, gifting you moments of pure emotions, leaving you to peruse both art and history, spirituality and good food, modernity and tradition.
WHAT NOT TO MISS:
Paper and watermark museum
Truly in keeping with its paper-making tradition, Fabriano provides visitors with the opportunity to admire the hand-processing of watermarked paper, just as it was crafted during the Middle Ages, with a host of “Master Paper makers and workers” and in a genuine vintage paper mill, rebuilt in the ancient Convent of the San Domenico Monumental Complex. Visitors will also be able to discover how paper evolved over time, along with “inventions” by Master Paper Makers from Fabriano.
“Bruno Molajoli” Municipal Art Gallery
The Art Gallery is dedicated to one of the greatest historians from Fabriano in the 20th Century. On show are some of the works by great artists from the Middle Ages, paintings and frescoes by Allegretto di Nuzio, Antonio da Fabriano, Orazio Gentileschi, as well as a prized collection of wooden sculptures and a collection of Flemish tapestries.
